Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the broadest employment opportunities. Banking, financial services, technology, consulting, healthcare, logistics, tourism and construction are major sectors. The culture combines Emirati traditions, Islamic values and a highly international expatriate community; modest dress and respect for local customs are appreciated. Lifestyle options range from beaches, desert activities and shopping to restaurants, arts and global sporting events. Summers are extremely hot, while winter is pleasant. Most foreign employees require employer-sponsored residence and work visas, with medical checks and Emirates ID registration. UAE Nationals generally have different citizenship and employment arrangements. Relocating usually involves securing an offer, arranging housing, health insurance, banking and school places where relevant. Dubai is well connected but can be expensive, particularly for rent and education. Public transport is strongest in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, while driving is common elsewhere.
