Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in commercial banking, finance, fintech, trade, technology, professional services and multinational companies. Its business culture is international, efficient and relationship-focused, with English widely used in professional settings and Cantonese important for many local-client roles. Life is fast-paced, but the city provides excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking trails and easy access to beaches and outlying islands. Housing is expensive, particularly in central districts, so many professionals consider Kowloon, the New Territories or shared accommodation. Eligible professionals commonly use the General Employment Policy visa, normally requiring a confirmed job, suitable qualifications or experience and market-based pay. Employers often support the application, but requirements and processing times should be checked with Hong Kong Immigration. New arrivals should budget for deposits, healthcare, transportation and relocation costs, and confirm whether the employer provides medical coverage, bonuses or visa assistance.
