Destination Guide

Qatar is a compact Gulf country rather than an island, offering opportunities in hospitality, aviation, tourism, retail, construction, finance, technology and events. Doha is the main employment center and has a modern, international lifestyle with excellent dining, shopping, beaches, museums and sporting events. Arabic is the official language, while English is widely used at work. Local culture values modest dress, respect for Islamic customs and courteous behavior; alcohol is restricted to licensed venues. Employers normally arrange a work visa, residence permit and often accommodation, transport, medical cover or annual flights, although packages vary. Relocating employees need authenticated documents and a medical examination. Summers are extremely hot, while winter is pleasant. Qatar has no personal income tax on salaries, but living costs, especially rent, can be high.
