Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is not an island but a federation of seven emirates, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi offering the widest range of hotel, restaurant, retail, tourism and events jobs. Hospitality work is highly international, and English is widely used alongside Arabic and many other languages. Dubai offers beaches, shopping, nightlife, desert activities and a cosmopolitan lifestyle, although rent and daily expenses can be high. The culture is modern and diverse but rooted in Islamic traditions; modest dress and respectful behavior are important, especially during Ramadan. Employers normally sponsor a residence visa and work permit, arrange medical checks and may provide accommodation, transport, meals and insurance. Employees should not work on a tourist visa. Before relocating, confirm the written contract, salary, benefits, probation terms and responsibility for visa costs. Public transport is good in major cities, while summer heat is intense.
