Destination Guide

The Philippines offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events, business services and technology, particularly in Manila, Cebu, Boracay and Palawan. Filipino culture is welcoming, family-oriented and strongly influenced by Spanish, Asian and American traditions; English is widely used in workplaces. Life can be affordable compared with many major international cities, although Manila rents and traffic are significant considerations. The country provides beaches, diving, festivals, mountain landscapes and lively urban entertainment, while tropical weather includes a rainy season and occasional typhoons. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate visa, commonly involving an Alien Employment Permit and a work visa; requirements should be confirmed with Philippine authorities. Relocation planning should include medical insurance, housing, tax advice, airport transfers and local registration. Salaries and benefits vary considerably by employer and experience.
