Destination Guide

New Zealand consists mainly of the North and South Islands, with Wellington located at the southern end of the North Island. Hospitality, tourism, healthcare, construction, agriculture, retail and technology provide employment opportunities, particularly in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and regional tourist areas. New Zealand culture is generally friendly, informal and multicultural, with strong Māori influence and respect for the environment. Lifestyle highlights include beaches, hiking, skiing, wildlife and a good work-life balance, although housing and transport can be expensive in major cities. Most overseas workers need an appropriate visa, such as a Working Holiday Visa, Accredited Employer Work Visa or residence pathway; eligibility depends on nationality, age, qualifications and job offer. Before relocating, arrange a valid visa, accommodation, tax number, bank account and health insurance. Public transport is useful in cities, while a car is often helpful regionally.
