Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in luxury hotels, beach resorts, restaurants, tourism, aviation and wellness, particularly in Langkawi, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak. Resort islands provide a relaxed lifestyle, warm weather, outdoor activities and close-knit expatriate communities, although shopping, healthcare and entertainment can be more limited than in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality, while learning basic Malay is helpful. Employees normally need an employment pass sponsored by the hotel, and approval must be completed before starting work. Requirements commonly include a valid passport, signed employment contract, qualifications or experience records and medical checks. Relocation planning should cover accommodation, transport, insurance, banking and local SIM access. Salaries are generally paid in Malaysian ringgit, and resort employers may offer staff housing, meals, transport or service benefits.
