Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with excellent public transport and frequent ferry connections to outlying islands. Job opportunities are strong in hospitality, finance, technology, retail, aviation, education and digital marketing, although competition can be high. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global business influences; Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in professional settings. Life is energetic and convenient, with dense urban neighbourhoods, varied food, hiking trails, beaches and efficient transport. Overseas professionals generally need an employment visa arranged with an eligible sponsoring company, and approval depends on qualifications, relevant experience, salary and the role’s business need. Employers often assist with documentation and relocation, but housing is expensive and typically compact. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, healthcare and daily costs.
