Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events, and marine leisure, particularly on islands such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang, Perhentian, Pangkor, and parts of Sabah. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous influences, and English is widely used in tourism workplaces. Island life is relaxed and scenic, but can be seasonal, with higher visitor demand during holidays and drier months. Living costs may be moderate, although accommodation and transport can be limited on smaller islands. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or another approved work permit before starting work. Employers normally handle much of the application process. Candidates should verify salary, housing, meals, insurance, contract terms, and transportation before relocating. Larger island resorts may provide staff accommodation and transfers.
