Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, multicultural city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, healthcare, finance and technology. Hotel roles are available in luxury properties, resorts, restaurants, convention venues and travel businesses, although competition can be significant. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay, Tamil and other languages are common in daily life. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and urban, with excellent public transport, shopping, dining and healthcare. Living costs, especially rent, are high, so accommodation and salary should be considered carefully. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and government approval. New arrivals should arrange a valid employment contract, suitable insurance, accommodation and a local bank account. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid throughout the year, with frequent rain.
