Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sales, technology, education, healthcare and international business. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and the Perhentian Islands, while Kuala Lumpur and major mainland cities provide the widest professional opportunities. The culture is multicultural, shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in business and tourism. Lifestyle costs vary: island living can be relaxed but seasonal and more expensive, while cities offer better transport, schools and services. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass sponsored by their Malaysian employer before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Relocating employees should arrange housing, healthcare, banking, tax registration and suitable insurance. Malaysia’s tropical climate, diverse food, beaches and outdoor activities make it attractive for expatriates, although humidity, monsoon weather and limited island services should be considered.
