Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, sales, events and resort management, particularly in Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur. Penang combines historic George Town, beaches, excellent food and a multicultural lifestyle, while Langkawi is more relaxed and resort-focused. Malay, Chinese and Indian influences shape the country’s festivals, cuisine and everyday culture, and English is widely used in hotels and business. Living costs vary, with Penang generally more affordable than Kuala Lumpur. New arrivals should expect tropical heat, monsoon seasons and a friendly but professionally structured workplace. Foreign employees normally require an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with approval handled through Malaysian immigration authorities. Before relocating, confirm salary, accommodation, medical coverage, transport, dependants’ permissions and tax obligations. Local banking, healthcare and rental arrangements are generally accessible in major cities and tourist areas.
