Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, finance, technology, healthcare and international business. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is safe, clean and convenient, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare, diverse food and many shopping and entertainment options. Housing can be expensive, particularly in central areas, so employees often compare accommodation near MRT stations and workplace locations. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, and approval depends on salary, qualifications, experience and Ministry of Manpower requirements. Before relocating, candidates should confirm pass eligibility, insurance, accommodation support, tax arrangements and any required documents with Shangri-La. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid throughout the year, with frequent rain.
