Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, attractions, aviation, retail, technology, finance and international business. English is widely used, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally safe, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare and a wide range of food and entertainment. Housing can be expensive, especially near central areas, so newcomers often compare room rentals and commuting costs before relocating. Singapore has a hot, humid climate throughout the year, with frequent rain. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation; the employer usually submits the application. Candidates should confirm eligibility and current requirements with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. Nearby destinations in Southeast Asia are easily accessible for holidays.
