Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and shared services, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and the east coast islands. Island living is relaxed and community-oriented, with a multicultural society shaped by Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions. Expect tropical weather, affordable local food, outdoor activities and a slower pace than major cities, although transport and specialist services can be limited on smaller islands. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary, role and immigration approval. Employers usually coordinate the application, but candidates should confirm eligibility and avoid working on a tourist entry. Relocation costs, accommodation, insurance and dependent arrangements should be discussed before accepting an offer. Malaysia is generally welcoming, but learning basic Malay and respecting local customs will make settling in easier.
