Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, retail, finance, technology, logistics and tourism. The city has a fast-paced, international culture combining Cantonese traditions, festivals and food with global business influences. Accommodation and daily expenses can be high, but public transport is excellent and most areas are highly connected. Employees enjoy convenient access to beaches, hiking trails, islands, shopping districts and a lively dining scene. Overseas workers generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer before starting work; requirements usually include a confirmed job, suitable qualifications or experience and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Employers may assist with the application, although terms vary. New arrivals should arrange housing, identification documentation, banking and medical coverage. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in hotels and professional workplaces.
