Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, tourism, retail, technology, education, healthcare and business services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Sabah and Sarawak. Island destinations such as Langkawi, Tioman, Redang and parts of Penang provide resort, restaurant, diving and guest-service employment, although work is often seasonal and accommodation costs can vary. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in hotels and business, while Malay is the national language. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed coastal communities, with generally affordable food and transport. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and must obtain approval before starting work. Relocating candidates should confirm salary, housing, medical cover, transport, tax obligations and visa sponsorship directly with the employer.
