Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, highly connected territory combining a dense urban centre with mountains, beaches and outlying islands. It offers opportunities in finance, hospitality, technology, retail, logistics, professional services and multinational headquarters, with strong demand for qualified accounting and tax professionals. Cantonese is widely used, while English is common in business and official settings. The lifestyle is fast-paced, international and convenient, with excellent public transport, varied dining and active nightlife, although housing costs are high. Popular leisure areas include Victoria Peak, the islands of Lantau and Cheung Chau, and the New Territories’ hiking trails. Foreign professionals generally require an employment visa sponsored by their employer, and applications usually depend on qualifications, a confirmed job offer and market-level salary. New arrivals should budget carefully for rent, deposits, healthcare and daily expenses.
