Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic destination made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with beaches, hiking trails, shopping districts and a vibrant dining scene. Hospitality opportunities are concentrated in luxury hotels, restaurants, clubs, event venues and tourism businesses, although finance, retail, technology and education also offer substantial employment. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with international influences; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese is valuable for customer-facing roles. Public transport is excellent, but rent is high, especially on Hong Kong Island and in central Kowloon. Employers often provide meals, medical coverage, bonuses or accommodation assistance, but packages vary. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored employment visa and must secure an approved job before relocating. A valid passport, qualifications, employment contract and proof of experience are generally required. New arrivals should budget carefully and arrange housing, banking and insurance.
