DIRECTOR, SHIPBOARD HR OPERATIONS

On Cruise Carnival Cruises $130,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential bonus and benefits*
Job Description

The Director, Shipboard HR Operations leads human-resources services across Carnival’s fleet, supporting crew engagement, performance management, employee relations, compliance, workforce planning and HR standards onboard. Candidates are expected to have a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or a related field, with substantial progressive HR leadership experience, preferably in cruise, maritime, hospitality or another large international operation. Strong knowledge of employment practices, labor relations, HR systems and regulatory requirements is important. The role requires excellent communication, sound judgment, cultural awareness and the ability to influence senior shipboard and shoreside leaders. Regular travel and time onboard vessels may be required, so candidates should be comfortable working in a multinational, fast-paced environment.

Company Info

Carnival Cruise Line is one of the world’s largest cruise operators and a flagship brand of Carnival Corporation & plc. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, the company operates a large fleet visiting destinations throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska, Europe and other popular cruise regions. Carnival is known for its relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, entertainment, dining, recreation and value-focused vacation experience. Its workforce includes shoreside professionals and thousands of crew members representing many nationalities. Shipboard HR teams help maintain a positive working environment, support crew welfare and ensure consistent people practices across vessels. The company offers career opportunities in maritime operations, hospitality, engineering, food and beverage, entertainment, guest services, technology and corporate functions. Employees may benefit from international exposure, onboard accommodation, travel opportunities and structured career development, although shipboard roles typically involve demanding schedules and extended periods away from home.

Destination Guide

For an “on cruise” role, your workplace is a moving ship rather than one island, with itineraries commonly visiting Caribbean destinations such as The Bahamas, Jamaica, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and St. Thomas. Cruise employment offers opportunities in hotel operations, food and beverage, entertainment, guest services, marine operations, engineering, retail, wellness, security and human resources. Shipboard culture is highly international, social and service-focused, with long working hours, shared accommodation and limited personal space. Crew members usually receive meals, lodging, medical support and access to recreation areas, while ships are in port. Visa and immigration requirements depend on nationality and itinerary; employers generally arrange crew visas, seafarer documents and joining instructions. Relocation normally means traveling to the assigned embarkation port rather than permanently moving to an island. Candidates should expect medical examinations, background checks, safety training and contracts lasting several months.
