Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and textiles, manufacturing, engineering, information technology, tourism, logistics, finance, healthcare, and education. The island has a diverse culture influenced by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial traditions, with Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, and Christian communities. Life is generally affordable compared with many international destinations, although Colombo is more expensive than smaller cities. Public buses and trains are inexpensive, while tuk-tuks and ride-hailing services are common. The country offers beaches, mountains, wildlife parks, and historic cities, along with warm tropical weather. Foreign nationals normally need the appropriate employment or internship authorization before starting work; tourist status does not generally permit employment. Relocation planning should include employer sponsorship, accommodation, medical insurance, local transport, and tax requirements. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages.
