Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers strong career opportunities in apparel manufacturing, merchandising, product development, IT, tourism, logistics, finance, engineering, and renewable energy. Its culture blends South Asian traditions, colonial influences, religious diversity, music, festivals, and a strong hospitality ethic. The lifestyle is generally social and family-oriented, with beaches, hill country, wildlife, historical cities, and affordable local food. Colombo provides the greatest concentration of corporate jobs and modern amenities, while regional locations can offer a quieter and lower-cost lifestyle. Foreign nationals normally need an employment visa or residence authorisation arranged with an approved employer before working; requirements can change, so confirmation from the Sri Lankan Department of Immigration and Emigration is important. Relocating candidates should review accommodation, healthcare, taxation, transport, and dependent-visa arrangements. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the main local languages.
