Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, energetic destination combining a major global business centre with beaches, hiking trails, historic districts and nearby islands. Job opportunities are strongest in hospitality, aviation, finance, retail, technology, healthcare and professional services. Cantonese is widely used, while English is common in hotels and international workplaces; Mandarin is also valuable. Life is fast-paced and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse dining and many cultural events, although housing can be expensive and space is limited. Overseas hires generally need an employment visa sponsored by an eligible employer, with approval based on qualifications, salary and the role’s requirements. New arrivals should budget for accommodation deposits, transport and healthcare, and arrange a local bank account and mobile service after arrival.
