Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in luxury hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology, manufacturing and shared services. Popular hospitality locations include Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and the coastal resorts of Sabah and Sarawak. Life is relatively affordable compared with many global cities, while Kuala Lumpur provides excellent transport, shopping, healthcare and international connections. Malaysia’s culture is diverse, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in business and hospitality. Employees should expect warm weather, multicultural workplaces and a generally relaxed lifestyle, although major cities can be busy. Foreign nationals normally need an employment pass arranged and sponsored by the hiring company before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Candidates should confirm accommodation, medical coverage, relocation assistance, taxes and pass eligibility directly with Shangri-La. Island postings may involve higher transport costs and fewer urban amenities.
