Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, technology and shared services, particularly in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and Johor. Its island destinations combine beaches, diving, rainforest activities and relaxed coastal living, while cities provide better transport, healthcare and career variety. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences; English is widely used in hospitality, alongside Malay and other local languages. Living costs vary considerably, with resort islands often having fewer housing and shopping choices than major cities. Foreign nationals normally need an approved employment pass arranged by the employer before starting work. Requirements depend on nationality, salary, qualifications and job level, and employers commonly handle much of the application. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical coverage, taxes and relocation support before accepting an offer.
