Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, events, retail and marine activities. Penang Island is known for George Town’s multicultural heritage, food scene and lively urban lifestyle, while islands and coastal areas in Sabah provide resort, diving and nature-tourism work. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions, with English widely used in hospitality. Living costs are generally moderate, though central Penang and major resort areas can be more expensive. Employees should expect warm weather, a relaxed social atmosphere and occasional long hospitality shifts. Foreign nationals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or an appropriate work permit, and should not begin work on a tourist entry. Employers may assist with immigration, accommodation and relocation, but this must be confirmed in writing. Research transport, housing, healthcare, taxation and local regulations before moving.
