Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, finance, technology, healthcare, education and logistics. The culture is multicultural, blending Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences, with English widely used at work. Life is safe, clean and convenient, supported by excellent public transport, shopping, diverse food and extensive leisure facilities. Accommodation and daily expenses can be high, particularly in central areas, so newcomers should budget carefully. Foreign employees generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, and approval depends on salary, qualifications and prevailing government criteria. Employers usually guide candidates through the application process, but applicants should verify current requirements with Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower. Relocation is straightforward, although securing housing, medical coverage and banking arrangements should be planned before arrival.
