Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, multicultural city-state and island destination with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, aviation, finance, technology and healthcare. English is widely used, while Malay, Mandarin and Tamil are also official languages. Life is safe, convenient and highly connected, with excellent public transport, diverse food, modern shopping areas and active neighbourhoods, although rent and daily expenses can be high. Hospitality employees should expect a fast-paced, service-oriented environment and may work shifts, weekends and public holidays. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, occupation and government requirements. Secure a job offer before relocating, verify the pass arrangement with the employer and budget for accommodation, deposits, healthcare and transport. Singapore's tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
