Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected city-state with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, catering, tourism, finance, technology and healthcare. The hospitality sector is multicultural and service-focused, with English widely used at work; Mandarin and other languages can be useful. Life is convenient, safe and modern, with excellent public transport, shopping, international dining and many parks, although accommodation and daily expenses can be high. The climate is tropical, hot and humid throughout the year, with frequent rain. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and occupation; the employer generally submits the application. Before relocating, candidates should confirm pass eligibility, medical requirements, housing arrangements, insurance, working hours and contract benefits. Singapore’s airport and transport links also make regional travel easy.
