Destination Guide

Indonesia offers culinary opportunities in major hotel and resort markets such as Bali, Jakarta on Java, Batam, Lombok and the Riau Islands. Chinese cuisine is widely appreciated, while local food culture emphasizes rice, seafood, spices, regional specialties and communal dining. Bali provides a relaxed international lifestyle, strong tourism networks and access to beaches, although housing and traffic can be expensive in popular areas. Jakarta offers broader career options, shopping and urban amenities but has heavier traffic and a faster pace. Foreign chefs generally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate Indonesian work permit and limited-stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocation packages vary, so candidates should confirm accommodation, flights, insurance, tax handling and service-charge arrangements directly with the employer.
