Destination Guide

For this opportunity, Penang Island is a likely reference point if the role is attached to one of Shangri-La’s Penang resorts. Penang combines beaches, heritage architecture, excellent food and a lively expatriate community. Popular areas include George Town, Batu Ferringhi and Tanjung Bungah. Hospitality creates regular opportunities in hotels, restaurants, events, tourism and wellness, although competition is strongest for management roles. The lifestyle is relatively relaxed, with affordable local food, tropical weather and good access to beaches and cultural attractions. English is widely used in tourism, while Malay and Mandarin can be useful. Foreign employees normally require an Employment Pass sponsored by the employer; approval depends on qualifications, salary and immigration rules. Candidates should confirm visa sponsorship, accommodation, transport, medical coverage, service-charge arrangements and relocation costs before accepting an offer. Penang International Airport provides convenient regional connections.
