Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, fast-paced international city spread across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories, with many outlying islands nearby. Hospitality is a major employment sector, especially in luxury hotels, restaurants, events, tourism, and retail. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with strong international influences; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese is valuable for guest-facing roles. Public transport is excellent, but housing is expensive and apartments are typically small. Employees should budget carefully for rent, commuting, insurance, and daily expenses. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by an eligible employer before starting work; dependants may qualify for related visas. Employers usually guide successful candidates through immigration procedures. Hong Kong offers excellent dining, hiking, beaches, cultural attractions, and convenient regional travel, although working hours in hotels can include rotating shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
