Job Description

The Service Manager – Front Office (Duty Manager) is responsible for overseeing daily front-office operations, supporting reception and guest-services teams, resolving guest concerns, and ensuring Shangri-La service standards are consistently maintained. Candidates should have relevant hotel experience, preferably in a supervisory or duty-management position, strong knowledge of front-office procedures, and excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Fluency in English is important; knowledge of Sinhala or Tamil is an advantage. The role requires leadership, professional presentation, sound decision-making, flexibility with shifts, and the ability to remain calm in a busy luxury-hotel environment. Familiarity with hotel property-management systems and relevant hospitality qualifications would be beneficial.

Company Info

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts is a Hong Kong-based luxury hospitality group operating hotels, resorts, and residences across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, North America, and other international destinations. The company is recognized for personalized service, comfortable accommodation, distinctive dining, wellness facilities, and strong attention to local culture. Shangri-La Colombo, located near the waterfront in Sri Lanka’s capital, is a large integrated luxury property with guestrooms, restaurants, meeting facilities, and retail and lifestyle offerings. Employees typically work in a multicultural environment and are expected to demonstrate warmth, professionalism, teamwork, and consistent attention to detail. The group also emphasizes career development, operational training, and service excellence. Benefits for eligible employees may include meals, uniforms, medical support, accommodation assistance, service charge, and opportunities for internal or international transfers, depending on the position and employment package.

Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers hospitality opportunities in Colombo, Galle, Bentota, Kandy, the Cultural Triangle, and resort areas along the south and east coasts. Hotels, restaurants, tourism companies, wellness centers, and travel operators regularly recruit internationally experienced staff, especially in front office, food and beverage, culinary, engineering, and management roles. The culture combines Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences, with strong traditions of family, religion, festivals, and welcoming guests. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although imported goods and premium housing can be expensive. Colombo provides the broadest professional and international community, while resort locations offer a quieter environment. Foreign employees normally need employer-sponsored approval and a residence or employment visa before working; requirements can change, so confirmation with Shangri-La and Sri Lankan immigration is essential. Relocation planning should include accommodation, healthcare, transport, taxation, and travel insurance.
