Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, finance, manufacturing and tourism. Kuala Lumpur is the main professional hub, while Penang, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu provide growing alternatives. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences; English is widely used in business, alongside Bahasa Malaysia. Urban life offers good food, shopping, public transport and modern healthcare, while beaches and islands such as Langkawi and Perhentian provide easy escapes. Living costs are generally lower than in Singapore, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company handles much of the application process. Dependants may require separate passes. Candidates should confirm salary, relocation support, taxation, medical coverage and visa conditions directly with UOB before moving.
