Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, tourism, manufacturing, and professional services, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru, and Kota Kinabalu. For island living, Penang combines beaches, heritage culture, excellent food, and a strong expatriate community, while Langkawi is quieter and more tourism-focused. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore, although major urban areas and popular island locations can be expensive. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, with the employer handling approval and immigration procedures. Dependants may qualify for related passes. Before relocating, check current visa rules, secure housing, understand healthcare access, and consider transport, schooling, climate, and proximity to the workplace.
