Destination Guide

Malaysia offers strong opportunities in technology consulting, software, shared services, finance, manufacturing, healthcare, tourism and digital commerce. Kuala Lumpur and nearby Selangor are the main employment centres, while Penang and Johor also have growing technology and industrial markets. The country combines Malay, Chinese, Indian and international influences, with a generally friendly, multicultural workplace culture. Living costs are moderate compared with many global cities, although central Kuala Lumpur housing can be expensive. Malaysia has tropical weather, excellent food, efficient urban transport in major cities and attractive islands such as Langkawi, Penang and the Perhentian Islands. Foreign professionals normally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and approval depends on the role, salary and current immigration rules. New arrivals should arrange a valid employment contract, budget for housing deposits and healthcare, and check tax, visa and relocation requirements before moving.
