Destination Guide

Malaysia offers technology opportunities mainly in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, with additional demand in Penang, Johor and major service centers. Database administrators can find roles in consulting, banking, telecommunications, shared services, manufacturing and cloud operations. Kuala Lumpur provides the broadest career market, public transport, international schools, shopping and varied dining, while Penang offers a slower lifestyle, strong technology manufacturing and beaches. Langkawi and other islands are better suited to leisure than full-time technology employment. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; English is widely used in professional workplaces. Foreign hires normally need an Employment Pass sponsored and submitted by the employer, subject to government approval and current salary rules. Relocating workers should budget for accommodation deposits, healthcare, transport and insurance, and confirm tax, dependent-pass and work-permit arrangements before arrival.
