Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in software engineering, AI, cloud, cybersecurity, consulting and shared services, especially in Kuala Lumpur, Cyberjaya, Penang and Johor. For island living, Penang combines strong technology employment with heritage districts, beaches, affordable food and a relaxed lifestyle. Langkawi is quieter and scenic, but has fewer specialist technology roles. Sabah and Sarawak on Borneo provide attractive nature, diverse cultures and growing urban economies, particularly around Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Malaysia is culturally diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous communities, and English is widely used in professional workplaces. Living costs are moderate, though central Kuala Lumpur and popular island areas are more expensive. Foreign professionals generally need employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, with the company handling much of the application process. Before relocating, confirm eligibility, salary thresholds, healthcare coverage, housing and tax obligations.
