Destination Guide

Malaysia offers career opportunities in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor and other urban centers, particularly in technology, shared services, consulting, finance, manufacturing, tourism and digital marketing. For island living, Penang combines a strong job market with heritage neighborhoods, beaches and a relaxed food culture, while Langkawi is better suited to tourism and hospitality roles. Malaysia is culturally diverse, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences reflected in its festivals, cuisine and languages. Living costs are generally moderate, although Kuala Lumpur rents can be considerably higher than elsewhere. International employees normally require employer sponsorship for an Employment Pass, and the employer typically handles the application. Candidates should confirm current immigration rules, qualifications and salary thresholds before relocating. English is widely used in business, but learning basic Malay helps with daily life. Public transport is strongest in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
