Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, well-connected island city-state with opportunities in technology, engineering, research, finance, healthcare, education, logistics, and advanced manufacturing. Its culture blends Chinese, Malay, Indian, and international influences, reflected in languages, festivals, neighbourhoods, and food. The lifestyle is safe, efficient, and urban, with excellent public transport, healthcare, shopping, parks, and frequent regional travel. Housing can be expensive, especially near central areas, so many newcomers choose shared accommodation or locations close to MRT lines. Employment Pass or S Pass eligibility depends on the job, salary, qualifications, and employer sponsorship; universities usually guide successful international hires through the relevant application. Bring certified qualifications and allow time for pass processing, medical checks, banking, and housing arrangements. Singapore is hot and humid year-round, with heavy rain possible. NTU is in the west, and commuting from central areas is practical but may take 30–60 minutes.
