Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with opportunities in technology, research, finance, healthcare, education, engineering, and advanced manufacturing. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly, and fast-paced, with excellent public transport, reliable services, diverse food, and safe neighbourhoods. Housing can be expensive, especially near central areas, so many newcomers rent rooms or apartments near MRT lines. Singapore has a tropical climate, with year-round heat, humidity, and frequent rain. Foreign professionals generally need an employment pass or another approved work permit arranged by their employer; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications, and experience. Relocation usually involves securing the job first, arranging housing, healthcare coverage, banking, and mobile services. The city is also a convenient base for travel throughout Southeast Asia.
