Destination Guide

Singapore offers strong opportunities in higher education, research, technology, finance, healthcare, engineering, and multinational business. It is a multicultural city-state where English is widely used, alongside Mandarin, Malay, and Tamil. Life is safe, efficient, and convenient, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare, diverse food, and easy access to parks and coastal areas. Housing can be expensive, especially near central districts and university campuses, so visiting academics often consider university accommodation, serviced apartments, or shared rentals. Employment and visiting appointments require the appropriate pass, commonly an Employment Pass, S Pass, or short-term academic-related arrangement, depending on the contract and duration. Applicants should confirm sponsorship and eligibility with NTU before travelling. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain. International schools, banking, mobile services, and airport connections are well developed, making relocation relatively straightforward.
