Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island with opportunities in education, technology, finance, healthcare, logistics, tourism and professional services. The culture is multicultural, efficient and generally respectful, with English widely used at work. Lifestyle options range from modern shopping districts and international restaurants to neighbourhood hawker centres, parks, beaches and nearby islands. Public transport is reliable, while housing can be expensive, especially in central areas; many newcomers rent rooms or shared apartments initially. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and government approval. Employers commonly assist with applications, but relocation costs, deposits and medical requirements should be planned in advance. Singapore is safe and convenient, although food, transport and accommodation costs should be included carefully in salary comparisons.
