Destination Guide

The United Kingdom offers wide employment opportunities in health and social care, particularly for experienced care workers, nurses, registered managers and deputy managers. Its culture is generally diverse, polite and community-minded, with strong emphasis on safeguarding, privacy and professional standards. Lifestyle varies from busy cities to quieter coastal and rural areas; public transport is good in many regions, although a car may be useful for some care homes. Overseas applicants should check whether the employer can sponsor the relevant Health and Care Worker visa, as eligibility depends on the occupation, salary and sponsorship status. Applicants may need recognised qualifications, English-language evidence, identity documents and criminal-record checks. Relocation costs, housing deposits, National Insurance, taxes and registration requirements should be planned in advance. The UK includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, each with slightly different care regulations and local living costs.
