Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities for registered nurses, particularly in hospitals, mental-health services, aged care, rehabilitation, community care and alcohol-and-other-drug treatment. Major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide provide the widest employment choice, while regional and remote areas may offer incentives and skill-shortage opportunities. Australian workplace culture generally values punctuality, direct communication, teamwork and work-life balance. Lifestyle options range from beaches and outdoor activities to multicultural city living, though housing can be expensive in major centres. Overseas nurses usually need AHPRA registration, English-language evidence, qualification assessment and appropriate visa permission. Possible pathways include employer-sponsored visas, skilled visas and working-holiday arrangements, depending on eligibility. Before relocating, budget for accommodation, transport, health checks, professional registration, insurance and initial living costs. Australia is geographically large, so choosing a location near the employer is important.
