Destination Guide

The Philippines is an archipelago with major employment centers in Luzon, including Metro Manila, Cebu in the Visayas, and Davao in Mindanao. Banking, business-process outsourcing, technology, tourism, healthcare, education, and retail offer many opportunities. Metro Manila provides the widest career choices but has heavy traffic and higher housing costs; Cebu and Davao generally offer a more relaxed lifestyle. Filipino culture is welcoming, family-oriented, English-friendly, and strongly influenced by regional traditions, Catholicism, and diverse island communities. Living costs vary considerably by city, with transport, food, and rent forming the main expenses. Foreign workers normally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate visa, while tourists cannot legally work. New arrivals should arrange employment first, verify immigration requirements, and research housing, healthcare, transport, weather, and local safety conditions before relocating.
