Destination Guide

The Philippines is an archipelago with major island groups: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Cebu, in the Visayas, is a major business, tourism, education, and technology hub, with opportunities in banking, shared services, IT, retail, logistics, hospitality, and professional services. Filipino workplaces are generally relationship-oriented, respectful, and collaborative; English is widely used in business, while Cebuano and Filipino are common in daily life. Living costs in Cebu are usually lower than in Manila, although central neighborhoods and expatriate areas can be expensive. Newcomers should budget for rent, transport, utilities, and healthcare. Foreign employees normally need an appropriate work visa or permit sponsored by the employer; tourists cannot legally work. Citizens of many countries may enter visa-free for a limited period, but rules vary. Secure employment before relocating and confirm immigration requirements with the employer or Philippine authorities.
