Sri Lanka offers employment opportunities in apparel and textiles, information technology, tourism, engineering, logistics, finance, healthcare, and business services. The island has a warm tropical climate, diverse landscapes, historic cities, beaches, tea country, and a generally welcoming culture influenced by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial traditions. Colombo is the main commercial centre and offers the widest range of professional roles, while manufacturing opportunities are also found around major industrial zones. Living costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although housing and imported goods can be expensive in Colombo. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa or residence approval arranged with employer support before working. Relocating employees should confirm sponsorship, qualifications, medical requirements, taxation, insurance, accommodation, and dependants’ permissions with the employer and Sri Lankan authorities. English is widely used in business, while Sinhala and Tamil are the national languages.
