Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, healthcare and business services. Colombo and nearby commercial zones have the largest concentration of professional roles, while industrial opportunities are also available in regional towns. The culture combines South Asian traditions with strong hospitality, and English is widely used in business, alongside Sinhala and Tamil. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although housing and transport in Colombo can be comparatively expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa arranged with employer support; a tourist visa does not permit employment. Relocating employees should confirm sponsorship, qualifications, tax, insurance and work-permit requirements before travel. Sri Lanka offers beaches, mountains, wildlife, historic cities and excellent food, but newcomers should plan for traffic, monsoon seasons and occasional economic or service disruptions.
