Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, well-connected island city with strong opportunities in technology, engineering, aerospace, finance, healthcare, logistics and advanced manufacturing. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, organised and fast-paced, with emphasis on punctuality, respect and performance. Public transport is efficient, and housing, food and healthcare are generally convenient, though living costs can be high, especially rent. Popular lifestyle options include hawker centres, parks, beaches, museums and shopping districts. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored work pass. The Employment Pass is commonly used for qualified professional and managerial roles, subject to salary and eligibility requirements; S Passes may apply to eligible technical staff. Candidates should secure an offer before relocating, budget for accommodation and insurance, and check current Ministry of Manpower rules. Singapore’s warm, humid climate requires lightweight clothing and year-round rain preparation.
